When you think of new media and some of the reasons why it has become more and more popular, blogs and wikis has to be one of the reasons you think of. With these inventions, a user doesn't have to go through the process of writing an article and sending it in to the local newspaper. Blogs and wikis help to keep that creativity flowing in everyday citizens because anyone can create a blog or wiki.
Blogs are changing the game of how people can access news and ideas. “Celebrity Blogs: The Impact of New Media” says, "Through blogs, people are able to write about topics that interest them and comment freely on what is going on in their lives and the world around them." Although they may have entertainment sections in newspapers, many people now feel it’s more convenient to go on a celebrity blog to read information on what is going on in the celebrity world. Some examples of these blogs are mediatakeout.com and worldstarhiphop.com. Because people can comment freely on what is going on in the world around them, it makes things more interesting for readers. For an example, Kanye West has a blog and on occasions you may see him express his feelings a lot on his blog.
Wikis are similar to blogging but it involved people working together and gives access to others to edit, save and post information. Wikis can be really useful because it pushes synergy. In the article "How to Use Wikis for Business" by Ezra Goodnoe, it says, "Anyone who's worked on even one team project in an enterprise can tell you what a nightmare document management can be. E-mails follow divergent paths. Spreadsheets and Word documents get passed around, and nobody's quite sure who has the most recent version.” With Wikis this helps solve that problem because it allows you to communicate and collaborate better. If a user makes a mistake or posts wrong information on the wiki, another user can easily go on the wiki and make the necessary changes. This is the same for the biggest wiki, Wikipedia. Many times you will see someone edit and post some inappropriate or wrong information on Wikipedia, but someone else can go on after and fix that information.
With new media becoming a big part of our lives today, blogs and wikis will only gain more popularity. Both of these forms of new media allows for better communication and creativity.

Interesting how you mentioned Kanye West's blog because that's the only blog I follow occasionally. Kanye West's blog is interesting because he expresses interests in many different categories. I think because of this, he has many followers because if you're not interested in one thing, there's another thing to look at in his blog.
